What a powerful kickoff to Feedback+Bozeman!
Day 1 began with a buzz of conversation as participants gathered around breakfast tables to connect, reflect, and dive into a rich variety of topics—from aligning organizational values with feedback practices to evaluating global impact through participatory research. These small-group sessions, including a warm welcome for first-time attendees, set the tone for a day rooted in curiosity and collaboration.
Our opening plenary, Big Sky Listening: Rooted in Montana, Resonating Beyond, brought us into the heart of the local landscape. Speakers from across Montana’s philanthropic and nonprofit sectors shared heartfelt stories about how deep listening in their communities fosters trust, strengthens results, and shifts power—reminding us all that listening well starts with understanding place.
The morning continued with breakout sessions that challenged and inspired. Whether exploring how to define the community you serve, turning data into deeper understanding, or amplifying the voices of unhoused neighbors, participants engaged in thoughtful conversations on how feedback can drive more equitable, effective systems. One session even unpacked the eight Core Principles of High-Quality Listening, offering practical takeaways to put equity into action.
Lunch brought us back together for The Courage to Listen, a bold and timely plenary conversation on finding common ground in divided times. Panelists spoke candidly about navigating tension while staying anchored in community connection, leaving many attendees with both hope and hard-earned strategies to carry forward.
In the afternoon, hands-on Skills Labs offered a chance to deepen learning and build practical tools—from photovoice techniques to AI’s role in managing feedback. Participants explored how arts-based storytelling, Indigenous values, and inclusive design can illuminate lived experiences and shift power dynamics.
The day culminated in dynamic LabStorms—collaborative problem-solving sessions tackling real-world challenges from across the country. Whether exploring how to fairly compensate community contributors, integrate Google reviews into nonprofit ratings, or amplify youth voice in evaluation, each session reflected the creative energy and mutual respect that make Feedback+ special.
We ended the day on a high note with a reception at the Museum of the Rockies—a chance to continue conversations, forge new connections, and dance with dinosaurs.
Day 1 has left us energized, inspired, and ready for more. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s recap, and let the listening continue!
